How do I display the column numbers in the data window?

For the data windows that are already open, click the Expand/Collapse Column Header button (above the vertical scroll bar) in that particular data window to have this area of the data window expand to make the column numbers visible.

To make this the default for any new data windows that are opened or created, select the Show Column Numbers option in the Preferences dialog.
