License Information
KaleidaGraph is available for both the Mac and Windows platforms via electronic download. Academic, government, and multi-user discounts are available. We also offer yearly licenses for academic institutions in addition to maintenance agreements. See below for more information on the various types of licenses.
The single-user license is designed to allow a single copy of KaleidaGraph to be installed on and used with only one computer. It cannot be installed on multiple machines at the same location. When multiple copies are necessary, each computer must have a separate single-user license installed.
Note: The end-user may install and use KaleidaGraph on a work computer and a home or laptop computer (i.e. multiple locations), provided that the end-user is the only person who uses KaleidaGraph, at any time, in any of these locations. If other users will use KaleidaGraph on any of the computers where it will be installed, then additional single-user licenses or a network license needs to be purchased for each user.
The concurrent user license model gives our license holders an extremely high degree of freedom and flexibility. The network license is designed for and licensed to an organization with multiple regular and occasional named users on a single network of computers at a specified location.
The maximum number of users concurrently accessing the application is dependent on the license purchased and a system must be in place within the end-user organization to monitor license compliance. If you use KeyServer to monitor the number of licenses, we have a special version of KaleidaGraph 5 that supports KeyServer. Please email support@synergy.com for more information on how to receive the installers and license file needed for KeyServer support.
5 and 10 User licenses: This allows you to install the software on up to 5 or 10 computers or concurrent usage of up to 5 or 10 users. You may transfer the software from one computer to another, but the software must not be installed on more computers or accessed by more concurrent users at any one time than the total number of licenses owned.
Custom User license: If you need more than a 5 or 10-user license, feel free to request a quote for a multi-user license and specify the number of licenses. Custom licenses are only available directly from Synergy Software.
(Warning: Exceeding the license maximum will lead to revocation of the entire license for all individual installations, potentially putting ongoing work and projects at jeopardy.)
Software upgrades can be purchased by users who already own a previous version of KaleidaGraph. A software upgrade takes KaleidaGraph from an older version to a newer version. Software upgrades are offered for a lesser charge than a new license purchase to all registered users. An upgrade is any software release that includes major new features that are not offered as part of free maintenance releases/updaters. If you wish to go from a single-user license to a multi-user license, this is not considered an upgrade. For special pricing in this scenario, please contact orders@synergy.com and we would be happy to assist you.
The Mac and Windows versions of KaleidaGraph are separate products. One license cannot be used on both platforms. If you currently own a copy of KaleidaGraph on one platform, you can purchase a crossgrade at a reduced cost to obtain a new license that can be loaded on the other platform.
Windows to Mac Crossgrade: If you currently own a Windows version of KaleidaGraph, you can purchase a Mac copy of KaleidaGraph. You are still entitled to use your Windows version and can even upgrade it in the future if you desire.
Mac to Windows Crossgrade: If you currently own a Mac version of KaleidaGraph, you can purchase a copy of KaleidaGraph for Windows. You are still entitled to use your Mac version and can even upgrade it in the future if you desire.
Government agencies that are not accredited educational institutions as defined in the terms of the educational license are eligible to receive a 10% discount off of the commercial price.
Certified non-profit organizations that are not accredited educational institutions are also eligible to receive a 10% discount off of the commercial price. Use the Government links or order form to place an order and receive the discount.
The discount does not apply to upgrades or crossgrades.
Subscriptions are only available to Academic institutions.
School Wide subscription: A school wide subscription is designed to allow multiple copies of the software program to be installed on and used with as many computers as necessary in a single physical location or office (i.e. does not include remote offices or branches of the same institution). It can be installed on multiple machines in the same institution location. This is a non-permanent license – the license must be renewed yearly. Departmental subscription: A departmental subscription is designed to license a specific group of users at an institution, rather than an entire institution. The department represents a discrete area of research that does not include multiple divisions, groups, units, sections, branches, programs, etc. If any employee/student of the institution can access the software, it is not considered a department license. Typically “Research Department” is too general for licensing. There is a 25 license minimum. This a non-permanent license – the license must be renewed yearly. We offer a 1 year student version of KaleidaGraph. The student license is something each student would normally purchase themselves and use on their personal computers. The cost of a single license is $49.95 and is valid for one year. To keep using it after the year is up, contact our Sales Department and pay to convert to a version that does not expire. This is a single-user license and cannot be shared or transferred to another person.

A maintenance agreement allows universities and businesses to provide departmental upgrades in a more timely fashion. There is no more delaying an upgrade purchase until a one-time expense can be fit into the budget. All software enhancements during your maintenance agreement period are included, and your software investment remains protected.
Your investment in a maintenance agreement program proves more budget-friendly than the individual purchase of upgrades. A maintenance agreement is a 3-year commitment at a reasonable fee per year so you can more accurately plan your technology spending. If a new version is released during the maintenance agreement period, that new version is immediately available at no extra cost.

Only officially accredited educational institutions are eligible to obtain KaleidaGraph educational/academic licenses. This status requires accreditation on the part of a nationally recognized accrediting agency. This includes: universities (including distance and continuing education programs), colleges, junior colleges, scientific and technical schools, vocational schools, and correspondence schools. Educational licenses can also be purchased by officially employed teachers, research staff, and students of officially accredited educational institutions.
Note: We reserve the right to request written proof of eligibility at any time. Proof of eligibility is a legally binding written statement demonstrating that an institution or employer qualifies as an officially accredited educational institution. By ordering an educational license you agree to submit proof of eligibility upon request. If you fail to demonstrate eligibility, you will be charged the difference in price to the standard version.
The educational license prohibits all commercial uses of the program. This includes for-profit KaleidaGraph training sessions. Educational licenses are available exclusively to non-commercial, accredited educational institutions and their employees.
Use of the program is expressly restricted to use in teaching and research. Administrative use of the program is considered a commercial application and thus not allowed under the educational license policy.
Only accredited educational institutions and employees of accredited educational institutions in teaching and research are eligible for KaleidaGraph educational licenses.

Licensing Questions
Our single-user and 5/10 multi-user licenses are perpetual. There is no yearly subscription fee. The only cost in the future would be to optionally buy upgrades when they become available.
No, the 5 and 10-user licenses are all for the same platform. Depending on how many licenses you need, you may be able to buy a multi-user license for one platform and single-user licenses for the other.
It’s not technically an upgrade but you can roll existing single-user licenses into a multi-user license. Older licenses would need to be upgraded and additional licenses would need to be purchased to create the new multi-user license. The old serial numbers would be made inactive and replaced by a new single serial number.
The Mac and Windows versions are considered separate programs. You can purchase a crossgrade to get a copy of KaleidaGraph for a different platform. Your existing copy remains valid and can be upgraded in the future.
Yes you can. It would be best to use the original installer to get it installed on the new computer. Once it is up and running, you can uninstall it from the old computer.
