How do I set the defaults for the legend frame?

After you have set up the legend the way you like it, choose Define Layout from the Plot menu. This will remember the attributes of the legend and make this the new default for this plot type (each type of plot can have its own layout).

Make sure you save the Style when quitting KaleidaGraph so your settings will be remembered the next time you launch it.
