You can usually look at the plot to pick initial guesses for the Gaussian curve fit. Do not set any of the guesses equal to zero.

  • m1 – the Y value that the tails of the curve approach for large values of |X|.
  • m2 – the maximum Y value of the curve.
  • m3 – the mean of the data.
  • m4 – the bell-width.
